Commission, transaction fees, Shopee Ads, shipping subsidies, and penalty charges — what Shopee actually takes from every sale.

How Shopee seller fees work
Shopee charges fees only when a transaction completes — there are no monthly subscription fees or listing fees for standard sellers. The main charges are a commission fee (a percentage of the item price) and a transaction fee (covering payment processing). On top of those, Shopee Ads are optional but almost always necessary for competitive categories.
Commission fees by category
Commission is charged as a percentage of the item price (excluding shipping). Rates differ between regular sellers and Shopee Mall sellers.

Mall sellers pay higher commission in exchange for the Mall badge, premium search placement, and access to Mall-exclusive campaigns. For most established brands, the incremental sales more than offset the higher rate.
Transaction fee
Shopee charges a 2% transaction fee on the order subtotal (item price, excluding shipping and vouchers). This covers payment processing — credit cards, PayNow, GrabPay, and other payment methods.
Preferred Sellers may receive a reduced transaction fee as part of programme benefits. Check your Seller Centre for your current rate.
Shopee Ads
Shopee Ads are optional but practically essential in competitive categories. There are three main ad types:
- Search Ads (Product Ads): Your listing appears at the top of search results. Charged per click (CPC). Minimum bid is SGD $0.01/click — in competitive categories, effective bids typically run SGD $0.10–$0.50+.
- Discovery Ads (Shop Ads): Your shop or products appear in the "You May Also Like" and homepage discovery sections. Also CPC.
- Shopee Live Ads: Promoted placement for your live streams. CPC or CPM depending on format.
Ad spend is not included in commission calculations — it is a separate cost on top of all other fees.
Shipping fees and subsidies
Shopee runs ongoing Free Shipping promotions where buyers see free shipping on qualifying orders. In these campaigns, the subsidy is split between Shopee and the seller based on programme tier:
- Shopee covers a base subsidy (typically SGD $1.50–$3.00)
- Sellers absorb the remaining shipping cost above the subsidy cap
- Preferred Sellers and Mall sellers get larger Shopee subsidies
Actual shipping costs depend on your logistics partner (Shopee Xpress, J&T, Ninja Van, etc.) and parcel dimensions.
Penalty fees and demerits
Shopee operates a demerit-point system for seller performance. Actions that trigger demerits or penalties include:
- Late shipment: Not arranging pick-up within the handling time window. Persistent late shipments result in listing penalties, lower search rankings, and potential account suspension.
- Non-fulfilment: Cancelling confirmed orders. High cancellation rates lower your seller score and affect your eligibility for campaigns.
- Counterfeit / listing violations: Listings removed for policy violations may incur direct penalties and listing limits.
- Return/refund abuse: High return rates signal product or listing issues and may trigger account reviews.
Demerits reset after 90 days if no further violations occur.

How to reduce your effective fee rate
- Apply for Preferred Seller status — you get a reduced transaction fee and higher shipping subsidies, which meaningfully improves margin at volume.
- Apply for Shopee Mall — higher commission, but the conversion uplift from the Mall badge typically more than compensates.
- Bundle products — higher average order value dilutes fixed per-order costs.
- Optimise ad ROAS — your effective cost per sale drops significantly with better keyword targeting and listing conversion rates.
- Maintain performance metrics — seller scores affect search ranking, which affects organic sales and reduces ad dependency.
